European Food Safety Authority, “EFSA advises on the safety of aluminium in food”

15 juillet 2008 · European Food Safety Authority

“Aluminium in foods originates from its natural occurrence, from the use of food additives containing aluminium and from the presence of aluminium in food contact materials such as pots, pans and foil.”

EFSA's announcement of a tolerable weekly intake of 1 milligram of aluminium per kilogram of body weight. It identifies cereals and cereal products, vegetables and beverages as the main dietary contributors, and says intake may exceed the tolerable weekly intake in a significant part of the European population.

Note sur la fiabilité. Page opened on 19 September 2026 and the quoted sentence, the tolerable weekly intake figure and the publication date confirmed.

Notes. Included for proportion, not as a rebuttal in kind. EFSA addresses total dietary aluminium and does not attribute cancer, 'trembles' or food poisoning to cooking utensils, which were the Golden Age's claims.

The Golden Age, “Not Selling Cooking Utensils”

10 avril 1935 · p.440 · Golden Age Publishing Company, Brooklyn, New York

“The Golden Age does not care what kind of cooking utensils you use. It isn't even concerned if you insist upon using aluminum of any kind. That is your privilege and responsibility. But it will not cease to warn those who are interested in their health that aluminum is injurious to the health in numerous and various ways. There is no question about this whatever.”

An unsigned item under the standing head 'Poisoning Department'. It was written in answer to a notice in Scientific American that the United States Federal Trade Commission had obtained a stipulation from a cookware seller to stop claiming that aluminium utensils cause cancer; the Golden Age reproduces that notice and rejects it.
