“From a criminal viewpoint the desirability of sobering the southern negro speaks volumes for national prohibition.”

The sentence is one of four short arguments in favour of prohibition listed at the head of an unsigned article that then turns against prohibition, arguing that it was imposed on an unwilling population in wartime, that the wealthy had stocked their cellars, and that "there is no prohibition for the man who had a few hundreds or thousands of dollars to invest in liquid refreshments".
