La Atalaya del 15 de mayo de 1953 cita lo que llama “the official record of the case in question (Police Court of the City of Hamilton, Ontario, March 17, 1913)” como constancia de este intercambio: “Q. You don’t profess, then, to be schooled in the Latin language? A. No, sir. Q. Or in Greek? A. No, sir.” Y añade, con su propia voz, que “Brother Russell had specifically said that he did not know Greek”.

La posición de la organización o su explicación posterior: La Atalaya presenta el intercambio como una refutación de los críticos y argumenta que la acusación de “perjury” es falsa porque Russell nunca afirmó saber griego; no niega que él dijera que no lo sabía.

The Watchtower, “Questions From Readers”

15 de mayo de 1953 · p.319 · Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society

“The “perjury” charge was not made in court, but in a tract written later by an irresponsible slanderer against whom Brother Russell had brought a libel case. The official record of the case in question (Police Court of the City of Hamilton, Ontario, March 17, 1913) says: “Q. You don't profess, then, to be schooled in the Latin language? A. No, sir. Q. Or in Greek? A. No, sir.” After this he was asked if he knew individual Greek letters, and it was over this that the question of his knowledge of Greek arose. ... Not only has the question they “quote” been reworded, but Brother Russell had specifically said that he did not know Greek.”

A reader asked whether tract charges that the Society's first president was immoral, profiteered from “miracle wheat” and committed perjury about Greek were true. The article answers “No. They were deliberate falsehoods,” and deals with all three.

Nota de procedencia y verificación for The Watchtower, Questions From Readers

Nota de confianza. Opened on the Watchtower Online Library on 19 September 2026; the page marker in the document is 319 and the citation code printed in the page is w53 5/15. The organisation here quotes a transcript of the Hamilton hearing of 17 March 1913 and concedes that Russell said he was not schooled in Greek; it disputes the wording of the version circulated by critics, not the underlying admission.
